Assistive technology is about helping people with disabilities achieve better living. Technology is often the difference between independence and relying on others for the simplest of tasks.
Ergonomic, workplace and technology needs assessment Our rehabilitation technologists work one-on-one with consumers to determine the appropriate assistive technology to meet their needs at home, work, school or in the community. These consultations may include home modification evaluations, workplace accommodation assessments, and low and high technology recommendations to meet a person's specific needs. Our rehabilitation technologists also meet with employers or schools to discuss meeting the needs of individual consumers.
Computer access/compatibility consultations Our rehabilitation technologists work closely with many manufacturers of assistive technology equipment. As a result, their suggestions have helped expand the computer access and compatibility options available today. Each consultation involves addressing the needs of the individual and the compatibility of an employer's or school's computer system. The ultimate goal is to make certain a person with a disability can access the needed computer programs to accomplish his/her job responsibilities. Contact us for specific information about available technology products.
Adaptive equipment training Our rehabilitation technologists make certain a consumer will be able to use the adaptive equipment he/she receives. Training usually takes place on-site to ensure a consumer becomes familiar with equipment in the environment where it will be used. Training is also available in our state-of-the-art technology lab and computer training lab.
Installation and support When adaptive equipment is ordered through The Assistive Technology Center, our rehabilitation technologists will install the equipment for you. Additionally, they are available 24-hours a day to provide technical support should the need arise.
