Deaf Community Services
Linking the Deaf and hearing communities through communication

Deaf Community Services offers language accessibility to the Deaf community through its many services.

Deaf Community Services (DCS), a division of Easter Seals Crossroads, is driven by its pledge to provide recognition of and language accessibility to the Deaf community. DCS is committed to serve as a link between the Deaf and hearing communities.

Services provided by DCS:

Interpreting Services
DCS arranges ASL interpreters to facilitate communications between Deaf/hard of hearing clients and hearing persons.  Our Terms of Agreement (pdf document) are available on our website, via e-mail or by fax.  You may fax or e-mail us the Request Form (pdf document) to request interpreting services.

Case Management
Our Community Support Specialist assists clients in the areas of employment, finances, housing and other basic needs.

Advocacy
Deaf Community Services provides advice and assistance to Deaf groups or individuals regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), discrimination of employment, education, communication, denial of access and other social services.

Community Education and Outreach
Deaf Community Services presents in-service training programs designed to foster a better understanding of Deaf culture and ease of communication with Deaf/hard of hearing individuals.

Information and Referrals
Deaf Community Services maintains, updates and distributes information on deafness and hard of hearing individuals, service agencies, local resources and community events.

Community Room
Our office houses a TTY, two video phones and two computers that are available for the Deaf community to use free of charge. 

Professional Development Workshops 
Contact us for information about upcoming workshops.  Off-site workshops throughout the state can also be arranged.  Some hotel suggestions within driving distance of our facility (pdf document).

These workshops are available as a distance learning opportunity through our remote partners in Evansville; Fort Wayne; and Rockford, Illinois.  Please contact the DCS office for more information. 

Evaluations of Educational Interpreters
Our Community Support Specialist is available to assist school administrators by going into school systems throughout the state to evaluate educational interpreters.  Our Evaluation Terms of Agreement (pdf document) is available on our website, via e-mail or by fax.

Pro Bono Services
Deaf Community Services strives to give back to the Deaf community by providing services when funds are not available.  In situations that meet certain criteria (pdf document), we provide interpreters free of charge in order to ensure accessibility for Deaf individuals.
